The brief we chose to create for was the Brighton and Hove council brief on 'how people from different backgrounds can and do get along'.
The idea we have come to is a one minute video filmed in the photo studio on campus. We intend to have 3-5 minute interviews with around 50 different people that live in Brighton of different ethnicity's and backgrounds. We will ask all the participants the same questions, the first one being 'What is your ethnicity?'. After answering the questions the participant will put a pin onto and map of where they're from. After all of this the map will hopefully be full and spread out demonstrating the diversity of people that reside in Brighton alone.
In the interview though we will also ask other questions i.e sexuality, religion, hobbies. From this information we will link people on what they say, for example someone from Brazil may say they are gay and also someone from Hong Kong may say that. We will present the individuals with the similarities as a collage of the close up interview shot, filling up the screen. This will for example demonstrate that no gay person looks alike or no Muslim person looks alike etc.
This one minute video will conclude with different people holding up different letters to spell out '#WeAreBrighton and #WeAreHove'. Overall it demonstrates that you can't judge a book by its cover and you also can't box people into categories and groups. We all cross over and have many similarities with each other no matter what race, sexuality or religion!
